Group Exhibition, Galerie Janine Rubeiz, 2023

In this work, I delve into the intertwined processes of trauma and healing, capturing their complexities through a short video art piece and a painting. My approach draws on the experience of living in a country where hope often feels like a rare resource. I focus on this work on the possibility of grief or joy, on darkness or light, and I seek to communicate the range of emotions, reactions, and resilience that arise from trauma and the journey toward healing.
I used leaves from plants as a symbol of our connection with nature. These leaves represent not only a grounding force but also resilience and regeneration—reminding us of nature’s cycles of decay and growth. By embedding these leaves in the painting, I emphasize our bond with the natural world and its role in healing, even amidst chaos. They act as fragments of life and continuity, anchoring the piece with a reminder of growth that is both fragile and enduring.
The painting itself embodies chaos, capturing the raw and often disorienting reality of trauma through intense textures and abstract forms. Amid this, I introduced shades of blue as a symbol of healing—a color that cuts through the turbulence with a sense of calm and restoration. The blue serves as a counterbalance, offering a gentle reminder of peace and renewal, even in the midst of struggle. It’s as if, within the painting’s chaos, this blue creates a pathway toward hope, inviting viewers to recognize that even within disorder, moments of healing can and do emerge.
